Giant pandas are black and white bears that live in temperate-zone bamboo forests in central China. Among the best recognized—but rarest—animals in the world, they have come to symbolize endangered species and conservation efforts. As few as 1,600 giant pandas survive in the mountain forests of central China. More than 160 pandas live in zoos and breeding centers around the world; most of these pandas are in China.

Giant pandas Mei Xiang and Tian Tian are at the National Zoo on a ten-year loan from the China Wildlife Conservation Association. They are the focus of an ambitious research, conservation, and breeding program designed to preserve this endangered species.

The normal camera view is watching the inside stall area of our birthing pen This is located just outside of our office so you may see us frequently coming and going. The area has rubber mats over concrete and is great for helping the alpacs stay cool/warm 9 months of the year. Only during the coldest weather will we put down straw for bedding.

The camera has infra red lighting. Night time viewing is exceptional in this area.

The alpacas in this paddock can come and go freely, unless the weather dictates we need to close them inside. The alpacas, with full winter coats, do exceptionally well in cold and snow. If you ever notice something that "doesn't seem right", please don't hesitate to email us. If you think it is an emergency, please call.
